This Week I’m Wearing…Smart Dungarees

I loved wearing dungarees as a kid and then saucing them up as a teenager with crop tops and sockless trainer combos. Despite their ‘brief’ fashion trend hiatus, dungarees have made their way back into the heart of not just my wardrobe, but many a fashion-lover. They’re a go to for making a real style statement without having to put in too much effort and should I have another baby, dungarees are also maternity must-wear, expanding as your bump grows.

Now I’m in my early 30s, I’ve been staying clear of the denim options for smart outings, giving this look a more grown-up update, choosing classic black in both a tailored and a leather one.

As an original Jodeci (mega 90s R&B boyband) super fan, I enjoyed my reconnaissance into this glorious teenage crush-filled era.

For work I keep my look simple with black on black combinations or a preppy white shirt and heels (the latter I keep in a drawer filled to the brim with vertiginous beauties under my desk). As it gets colder, I’ll cosy up with a jersey polo neck and ankle boots.

If you want to dip your toes in the dungarees look, without the full commitment, wear yours like a couture pair of trousers with the straps hanging down paired with a statement tee or chunky jumper.
